The Opus Aether Manufacturing Review
Before a part runs, we assess the file or requirement against the way it will be made. The result is read by a person who runs these machines, then put back to you by email. This is how we avoid both the slow hand quote and the instant system that guesses at a shape it has not understood.
Your file is analysed, then a person reads the result. We are not guessing.
Five steps, one accountable handoff
Each decision is read before the next one begins.

Send a file or requirement
Send STEP, STL or 3MF, or describe the part in plain language. The useful context is what it joins, what it sees in service, and which features matter.

We review the part
We inspect the geometry, likely orientation, material fit and whether the part belongs inside the available envelope.

We confirm feasibility by email
You receive what we would make, what we would change, and the reason. A question or a risk is not buried in a generic quote.

We make it
The agreed file and route are prepared for manufacture. A revised file returns to review because it is a new manufacturing decision.

We ship
The part leaves only after the agreed review has become a real, documented build.
What we check, in order
The route follows the geometry, not a generic profile.
The sequence matters. A material recommendation is meaningless if the file is not a usable solid. A chosen orientation is not a promise if the part cannot fit. We establish each decision before moving to the next.
Geometry integrity
We look for a closed, interpretable part rather than a collection of accidental surfaces, inverted normals, self-intersections or scale ambiguity. If the geometry has no reliable inside and outside, it cannot support a reliable manufacturing decision.
Orientation and layer axis
We identify the loading direction, visible surfaces and fit-critical faces. FFF parts are strongest along the deposited roads and less resistant across their interfaces. Orientation is therefore a structural and visual decision, not a button in a slicer.
Walls and features against the chosen nozzle
A small feature is assessed against the nozzle intended for the job, not against a generic printer profile. We check walls, holes, gaps, bridges and the places where a support strategy would change the visible result.
Material against the declared service environment
Tell us what the part meets, carries and experiences. We use that context to make a material choice, rather than treating the material name as an aesthetic preference.
Envelope and segmentation
We compare the whole geometry with the available build envelope. A part beyond it is not automatically rejected, but segmenting changes seam placement, assembly and risk. That is discussed before manufacture.
What comes back to you
The email makes the proposed route and its risks legible.
The feasibility email is a decision record, not an automated acceptance. It identifies the received revision, the proposed material and orientation, the features that drove the decision, and what we would alter or need clarified before proceeding.
Where the file is ready, that email makes the next step unambiguous. Where it is not, it gives you a specific choice: revise the geometry, accept a stated trade-off, change the material or divide the part. It does not turn uncertainty into a silent default.
What we flag and what we warn about
A blocked decision and a visible risk are not the same thing.
Flagged
A flag blocks the decision until we have contacted you. It might be a non-manifold body, a wall that cannot be formed with the selected nozzle, unclear units, a fit-critical feature without its mating context, or a part outside the single-piece envelope. We do not print past a flag.
Warning
A warning does not necessarily stop the part, but it may affect its appearance, strength direction, assembly or service behaviour. It appears in the review so you can decide with us. A proposed setting change that may affect visible finish is surfaced as a quality risk, never applied quietly.
Ownership, intended use and the work we decline
We need enough context to decide whether the work belongs here.
We screen enquiries for ownership and intended use as part of technical review. Send only files you are entitled to have made, and tell us enough about the end use to assess the part honestly. Confidential handling and an NDA path are available before you share sensitive geometry.
Parts are not supplied for safety-critical, life-support, medical, implantable, food-contact, pressure-retaining, hazardous-area or firearms applications, and not for flight-critical or load-bearing structure, unless separately agreed in writing. We do work with aerospace, defence, drone and robotics customers on tooling, fixtures, ground support and non-critical components. That boundary is not a footnote. It is a condition of whether we can accept the work.
See the decision record at work
A physical correction belongs with the record that produced it.
The review is not only a description of a route. Its inputs, validation and physical corrections can be retained together, so a later change returns to the same manufacturing record. The workshop record shows this through internal FDM, resin and mesh-to-CAD projects.
