Jigs and fixtures
A tool has to locate a repeated operation, survive handling, and make the correct action easier than the wrong one.
Design notes for this job
- Dimension the locating faces from the part datum, not from the outer shape of the tool.
- Make clamps, pins and replaceable wear points separate where that simplifies maintenance.
- Identify every feature that sets position before the technical review begins.
Envelope considerations
Fixture size is reviewed with the workpiece and operator access in mind. Larger tools can be divided where the locating logic remains clear.
